Oswestry Golf Club has a large and friendly Men's section with a full and varied programme of both competitive and social golf.
Because of our excellent drainage, competitions are played throughout the year. However if you just want to play social golf there are lots of opportunities to join in.
If you take your golf more seriously the club run both scratch and handicap teams and Oswestry has an enviable reputation in County competitions.
The club has regular friendly matches with Llanymynech, Hawkstone Park, Church Stretton, Shifnal and Warrington to name just a few. There are regular exchanges and in the last few years we have visited quality courses such as Beau Desert, Conwy, Enville, Nefyn and Bramhall Park.
Also Oswestry enjoys reciprocal arrangements at over 100 golf courses through the James Braid scheme.
Our Ladies Section averages 150 ladies across a wide age range from Junior Girls to Senior Ladies and is believed to be the largest in Shropshire. We are an extremely active section of the Club, both on our lovely course and socially. Each year the Ladies Captain chooses a charity to benefit from a variety of fund-raising events during her term of office
Our usual competition day is Tuesday and we have a full diary of competitions running throughout the season - medals, stableford, match-play, Board Competitions and qualifiers for National Competitions (many of which can also be played on a Sunday). In addition ladies can enter knock-out competitions both individually and with partners (male and female) to be played on days to suit the competitors. In the winter months we run a "Draw For Partners" system playing both 9 and 18 hole competitions. These random draws give us an opportunity to play with a variety of lady members and we have a lot of fun playing different format games.
We have enthusiastic league and handicap teams in County competitions and we also play a number of friendly matches (both home and away) which are open to all lady members. Each year we enjoy a day away on an exchange basis to another club and we also have a short trip away with Lady Captain, which is extremely popular.
Socially the ladies arrange events during the year when a speaker is invited and we enjoy a glass of wine together.
We welcome all new members to our club and can offer a well-appointed clubhouse with wonderful facilities.
If you are interested in taking up golf then Oswestry Golf Club, together with England Golf, offers lady beginners the chance of a free golf lesson - to find out more please contact either the club secretary or club professional.
Oswestry Golf Club has a large and active Seniors' Section that has a busy golfing calendar. There is a regular "roll up" on Monday morning, specific Seniors' competitions and fixtures against many local clubs. So whether you wish to play competitive or just social golf you will find something to suit at Oswestry.
The Junior section enables young people, regardless of ability, to experience the game of golf in a safe, structured and fun environment.
The Junior evenings run every Friday from Mid April until the end of September and the first nine holes of the course are reserved for their use.
Junior Golf Leaders and other members will be on hand to supervise and encourage the youngsters. There will also be a Professional on hand to provide expert coaching.
We are delighted to now be SafeGolf accredited. This is a national accreditation ensuring the safety of children and adults participating in the game of golf.
Junior evenings take place on a Friday throughout the summer, where competitions, coaching and more are laid on for our Junior members.
If your child is new to golf, we run coaching sessions from 5-6 pm on the practice ground under the supervision of PGA professional Richard Edwards. These sessions are free to members or £5 per session to non-members.
Junior membership starts at just £50 for the year and affords your child the following benefits:
